The spread of the epidemic has increased the demand for medical assistance, and the 911 call in New York City has been knocked out

The number of calls to 9 / 11 New York City for emergency medical assistance is increasing, according to the local emergency workers' Union, the world daily reported Thursday. Emergency workers, who had already reduced their manpower due to new coronavirus infection, now face a lot of help.

Since March 16th, novel coronavirus pneumonia has been closed in New York. About 1000000 students have been affected and closed at least until April 20th. The picture shows a closed public school in Queens, New York. Photographed by Liao pan, reporter of China News Agency

Oren barzilay, chairman of the local 2507, a New York City employees' union that works in first aid, nursing, fire protection and dispatch, said emergency medical help calls are now up 40% to about 6500 a day.

"We usually get 5000 calls on the busiest day of the year," Bardsley said. Mostly on New Year's day. On the night of the 24th, we broke the record. " He said that the novel coronavirus pneumonia symptoms increased sharply, "because the number of rescue needs increased, some calls for help people wait 3 or 4 hours ambulance to arrive."

Emergency medical service (EMS) staff expect the record of calls for help to be broken again and again in the coming weeks. For example, at 10 a.m. local time on the 25th, due to too many calls, there has been a delay in answering.

Three weeks ago, the Department received only about 20 calls a day about the new coronavirus. Last week, the number increased to 300 per day, and then doubled rapidly.

New York's 911 emergency system is run by the New York City Police Department and the New York City Fire Department. The police operator answers the phone first, and then decides whether to transfer it to the police dispatcher, the fire department or the emergency department. There are about 2000 911 operators in the whole system, mostly in the police, about 400 in the emergency department and 200 in the fire department.

Bazley said more than 200 union members have been ill. The fire department in charge of the first-aid personnel has not provided the new coronavirus test, and the staff must go to the test site or hospital by themselves if they want to test. "If we fall another 10 per cent ill, I think the city will be in crisis," he said
